Draft Evaluation 4

I have used alot of new technology in the researching of my product, I used Youtube to so I could look at existing examples of this genre. Youtube is a good source of existing media text but it can prove to be difficult to navigate as there are so many videos on the site it is difficult to find the one that you want.
I used Scribd to get my word documents onto my blog which proved very useful although it has a tendancy to strench and distort any images on the document so its not the best alround.
SlideShare on the other had allows me to not only update my blogg with my power point presntations but also allows me to add word documents with images in a way that does not destort the image.

Draft Evaluation 3

I have received feedback from both my teachers and the students I work with about my music video and my ancillary products their comments have been instrument in the creation of my final piece as without this feedback I would not have been able to improve my work to the level it is now.
Comments from Mr Smith about the lack of detail towards the narrative on my Draft video, and Mrs Somel's comments that the Draft was not expressing the full emotion of the characters involved.
I attempted to change this by filming some of the scenes again but even after making these changes their were to many issues left to address before it would be a half decent video and this would take alot more time then I had.
Mr Smith's possitive comments about my document like filming made me realise I should do some more filming like this for my blog.
A comment from Mark Bramford that the trouble I was having not being the end of the world, gave me some much needed motivation that help me to develope my new idea for a music video.

Draft Evaluation 2

The combination of our ancillary Products and the music video it self work together as they are all focused on the main character in this case John Rhodes,the combination of these products together gives a clear image of John Rhodes as a person and the emotions he felt during the creation of his music video.
Looking at my music video as a base for the design for our ancillary products I decided that the ancillary products should display the same level of emotion as the video which I think links the product together effectively. The Brand image that I created from the combination of my music video and ancillary products appeals to my target audience and hopefully to others that have never listened to this style of music before.

Our video and corresponding ancillaries cannot be claimed as copyrighted from the original Johnny Cash videos, as my the ideas we have used for this product may not be new but are free of any clear links to Johnny Cashs style of music video and ancillary products. The ideas that led to the creation of this video were simple ones that could be link to all kinds of music video genres, as our original idea was set in the countryside and was a narrative video. But due to it lack of detail and failure to portray a clear story it was clear that it needed to change. After working on the video and adding new video text to it, the fact the videos main concept was flaured became clear and we began to rethink our ideas. The main issues at the time was the location and the characters as the characters had little time to spare and the location was loosing light faster due to the fast aproaching Winter months.
This led to the drastic read think that you seen as our final product,As after alot of phone calls and planning we were able get access to the location we used for the final piece. Using the equipment we had to hand we created our video,The clothing used in this video was selected to make the main character stand out against the other character that are all dressed the same. Due to personal reasons some of the characters in our video wished to stay anonamous and so their faces were removed from the video a concept not used in the Johnny Cash videos.

We researched this genre of music, through other country country musicians as well as johnny Cash's music.

Draft work

This is my First Draft for my Digi-pak work, It's abit basic but thats what makes it a good piece of work as country music CD covers are usually simple and not overly complicated. I will need to change a few details on this piece to make it at effective as possible,

This is my first Draft for my Poster, I need to work on it but it should improve in time. I will change some of the fonts and add alot more information and hopefully it will end up a good piece of advertising for my digi pak and my artist.

Poster Ideas

I have to considered alot of details when creating my poster, so I have been working on alot of different images and colour schemes for my poster the most effective appears to be the black and white colour effects, this also matches up well with the Johnny Cash element in my work as most of his existing posters are in black and white.

country music designs

Through out this stage of my project I have been studying different examples of country music designs that have already been used to get an idea of the style of work I need to include in my work. But this also alows me to avoid accidently copying someone elses designs.

Sorry I Missed a Lesson

I'm sorry I missed the lesson on Friday but I was in hospital having a procedure performed on my right foot. It required me to stay in hospital for the day due to complications and the used of a strong anaesthetic that resulted in me being unconscious for an hour, this meant I was unable to leave until 3 o'clock as the doctors needed to keep an eye on me as I recovered.
This shouldn't effect my work but it may cause me to be late to a fue lessons as I can't run on my right foot.
In the mean time I've been looking on Scribd for documents relateded to country music. I found a few interesting documents including one called happy trails about the life of Roy Rogers its quit interesting as he was a bit of a cowboy.
Heres just a small exstract.

editing changes and final video

I spend alot of time during lessons and after school editing this video,
It took a very longtime but it was definitely worth it to as the outcome greater then I thought it would be. Most of my teachers agree with this and have been a great help with all of my work so far.

After looking at these examples I have collected, I analysed these images with reference to the Country music genre and desided that the best form of altering my images for my Disk cover was the Black and White gradient change. As it looks good and matches well with the Johnny Cash CD covers that are already in the market.

Editing 2

I am continuing to edit my video this could take some time and alot of after school work but it will definitely be worth it to get a the finished result.
The video needs a few more cuts to make it perfect.

Other versions

There are alot of other versions of the Ring of Fire song by different artist and groups. Some of them from different genres and use different instruments to the original.

My video ideas

Underneath are a list of my ideas on how to improve my video for my final draft.
These lists consistof the pros and cons of each idea as well as their individual practically.

To do list

Here is a list of things I need to do and consider before I decide how I am going to create my final video and digi pack.

• Write out my three ideas for a video in detail, including pros and cons as well as practicality

New storyboard

Started to design and create my new storyboard today, I also watched other versions of the song to give me some new ideas.

Changes

Due to a conversation I had with miss Sutton on Thursday I have come to the decision that I will change the storyboard I am using to a more detailed and complex version with more shots and a better sense of continuity.This will greatly increase the effectiveness of my video and hopefully convey the point I am trying to get across to my audience that is, Love can hurt alot especially lost love but it is not the end of the world, start afresh and forget about the heart ache its causes. I have been through this many times and I'm still standing. So stand up and get on with your life it's the only way forward.

Locations

As it is only my draft video I decided to change a few of the locations to less crowded areas hear are photos the locations that I changed them too, They are all in my house but in the best video I intend to use my local pub as it has a good atmosphere and has more of country feel.

The camera for my filming will be placed here were the plant is currently.

This room will replace the backroom of the pub where my characters have an arguement.

Discussion

Today I had a chat with my media teacher and he says I need to add more to my blog and complete the editing of my video to have it ready for Friday, so it appears I will be busy this week.On another note I have put more then half of my video onto the Macs today I hope that the finidhed product will be great but I'm worried about the timing and if I have enough of it to finish the project on time.
No point in panicing though as I have gotten out of tighter spots with everything in tact.
I apciate the helpful comments by Mr Smith but his imput has begun to effect the outcome of the video and so I am going to change back to some of the original ideas I came up with Mrs Sommels help.

Indoors

Finished all my indoor filming today, only one scene left to film.
The shots I am filming will contain no lip syncing and no sound so the music can be played over the top.

I finished all of my outdoor filming today and only have a fue more shots left to film so I will be starting the editing at the start of this week.

Halloween

Today is Halloween and I just thought I discuss the themes of Halloween,

The main themes of Halloween these days are ones of humour and fun, which is combined with the emotions of Fear and Happiness, two concepts that are rarely put together as they are almost complete opposites. But they seem atleast to work well on halloween a time of year for telling scary stories and trick or treating with younger members of family. These days though as with most things its about the parties and getting together with friends to watch scary movies, wich just goes to show that this is another season celebration that has fallen into the comercial hands of big businesses trying to sqeeze every drop of money out of the holidays.

Fire test

I decided that the my raft would need an accelerant to burn properly as the green wood the branch are made from don't burn well on their own.
So have decided that the best choice of accelerant to use for this task is lighter fuel, which is also used to light barbecues and start bonfires. But to assure the raft is unharmed in the making of the Draft of my video I will be using Methylated Spirits as this will allow me to control which parts of the raft burn and which parts don't burn.

Fire

I decided that I would use methylated spirites for the fire on the raft during my draft filming and lighter fuel for the final video.
The reason for this is methylated spirites is a controlable flammable substance that will burn at a controlled rate rather then burning out of control.
And I am using the lighter fuel for the final cut as it will give the scene a more entertaining scene and will show case the dangerous and destruction nature of fire.
Here is an example of this destructive nature at work.

I intend on doing most of my filming this weekend as it gives me the equvilent of three days to work on it and to setup the props I will need.

1st scenes

Today I filmed the first few scenes for my video, I had to start with the single character scenes first as they are the easiest to film. I was able to get my hands on a guitar after a long time searching, I decided to ask the music department but they don't allow you to take them out of school. Then I remembered the Art department had an old one and after asking to borrow it I was on my way.

Was planning to film today, but due to unforeseen circumstances filming had to be put on hold. But while I was waiting I watched this video of Johnny Cash from around the same time period as he sang 'The Ring of Fire'

filming

I filmed a few more shots today, I also watched a few videos of the same genre, these videos are difficult to analyse as they are not following a story like most music videos as country music singer tend to do concerts instead of music videos. Kenny Roger for example has a great voice but he didn't do any music videos as far as I can tell after searching on YouTube to find one.

But I think I understand why country music stars preferred to do concerts over music video, its because they enjoy seeing the reaction of the audience to there songs and allowing them to join in like this video show you. which is something that they cannot do with a music video.

Weather Report 2

The weather next week looks good for filming so I will try and get it all done in time (before it rains) so I can have it edited and finished as soon as possible.

Before I start filming I need to pick the best candidate for each character in my video. Below are pictures of the candidates that I have chosen to play the rolls in my video. I may change this for the main video as the flash backs would make more scense with younger characters involed.
But for the draft these characters will work fine and hopefully the video will work with only them in it.

Film schedule

I have begun planning my filming and what shots I should start with.
the only problem is the time of day as I am loosing more light and my characters are busy people so it may be difficult to time the filming with good light.

Filming Preparations

I am getting ready to film some of the shots for my video, as I have not gotten My hand on a guitar yet I can only film the scenes that don't have a guitar. I hope the guitar problems I have been having will be solved soon as I have been exploring many different options.

Construction Begins

Today I started consruction of the raft for my video, Hope it goes alright as I have the correct tools and good number of branches for material.

Today I went out and collected the materials for my raft, I went to all the locations I mentioned earlier. I got a good haul, enough for the two rafts. I also got some good photos and videos which are below.

Raft Blue Prints

I have created a blue print for the construction of my raft and I will use this to help me create it. It also includes a list of accelerants I might use to help set the raft ablaze.

Company names

I have been considering names for the company and the logo I will include in my video. The reason for this is my video may need credits so I have started to consider the name of the company. To do this I researched tirelessly using a list of existing companies and the Oxford dictionary of words that allowed me to devise a name that linked to the video genre that I have chosen.

Before I make the raft for my video I will need to assess the risks involved, as I will be using sharp tools and instruments in its creation. e.g tripping with a knife or a pair of scissors.

I am working on my film schedule at the moment, it going well I will put the finished product bellow.

Raft construction

As you can see from my props list I will make the small raft for my film myself, using materials from these locations and more if necessary. I would like to make two rafts so I can see how well one burns and make a decision on whether or not I will need to use some kind of accelerant.

Character Costume

These are the sort of things I will need to make my character look like he is part of the genre of country Music.

The other objects on this page items that I will include in my video including a raft and a ring. The cowboy hat isn't completely neccessary for the filming of the video.

Shooting Schedule

Below is the shooting schedule for my video I hope to stick to this schedule as closely as possible.

I am going to create an animatic using my finished storyboard,An animatic is a filmed version of my storyboard that has been edited to make it shorter and run smoothly. Here is a draft copy,that I did before editing.

The story board for my video has changed to match the length of the song that I have chosen, this is because the original storyboard did not fit perfectly to the song so I have tweaked the story board to match almost perfectly to the music. sorry this post is late but my computer troubles never seem to end. As my computer has now locked me out. I am sending this post using the family computer.

Location

I have picked the locations for my filming because they match with the themes of the genre, as the song is a country song it makes sense to locate my video in the countryside. Aswell as the fact the locations are all easily accessible for filming at any time and are close to school meaning I will be able to get from my lesson to the areas for filming without wasting alot of time.

Storyboard Narrative

The narrative for my video contains two characters one male and one female.
Male:
Female:
The video starts with the man alone in a field looking at the view clutching a box.
Then there is a flash back to him with the girl on the day they first met.
Then we go back to him alone in the middle of the field.

StoryBoard

Started to decide on the narrative of my music video I looked at other examples in the genre and decided to use a story revolving around a single character who has been rejected by love and tries to come to terms with his feelings. So I started to draw up a storyboard. Finished the storyboard on Tuesday.
I created two storyboards as the narrative of the video includes a present day event littered with flash backs so I seperated them out and made a storyboard for both the main story and flashbacks.

Lightning

This song has a similar story as 'The Ring of Fire' but it is more obvious, it is also about something natural in this case a Lightning Storm instead of Fire.

The importance of the weather is emphasized in this video by its constant presence in the background of the video, and the odd quick cut to the lightning in the window in the video make it seem like there is actually a lightning storm in out side. The single candle in the video makes the darkness more pronounced and sets the mood of the video, it also connotes that the character lonely in this video as the candle is his only companion during the storm.

Weather

The weather for the next week is going to be rather miserable, the temperature will be not to bad but the rain will be annoying for people planning on filming. Mondays looks good though.

This may effect my filming schedule as I can't film in the rain but I will film as soon as possible.
